This theatre piece traces the journey from the Spree to the Baltic Sea, throughout cities, to reveal stories of exploitation, resilience and ecological injustice. Using feminist aesthetics to develop multiple languages that go beyond words to encompass sound, rhythm, image and movement, this piece reveals how ecological denialism fuels polarization and extremism. The proposed arrangement of the Aesthetic Space integrates the audience, there is no separation by a "fourth wall". Following the performance, a Collective Forum is established, an aesthetic space of interactivity between the stage and the audience.
Von der Spree bis zur Ostsee durch verschiedene Städte führt dieses Theaterstück und enthüllt Geschichten von Ausbeutung, Widerstandsfähigkeit und ökologischer Ungerechtigkeit. Mit feministischer Ästhetik werden verschiedene Sprachen entwickelt, die über Worte hinausgehen und Klang, Rhythmus, Bild und Bewegung umfassen. “Waterbodies” zeigt, wie ökologischer Leugnungswahn die Polarisierung und den Extremismus auflodern lässt. Die hier angebotene Gestaltung des ästhetischen Raums bezieht das Publikum mit ein, es gibt keine Trennung durch eine „vierte Wand“. Im Anschluss an die Aufführung wird ein kollektives Forum eingerichtet, ein ästhetischer Raum der Interaktivität zwischen Bühne und Publikum.

They are one of a kind: a Romnja rapper duo. Together they sing rap, and they aim to revolutionize the sexist Romanian music industry. A slap in the faces of patriarchy, they represent powerful lyrics, reclaim their spaces and speak out about sisterhood and women’s power. Solidarity is their basic beat and they frost the delicious sound with rhythmic extravaganza. The two actresses conjure spirits, enchant with voodoo energy, heal and curse, scatter empowering messages like silver glitter, and celebrate the talent and creativity of Roma artists in the local and global music scene.
Sie sind unverwechselbar: ein Romnja-Rapper-Duo. Gemeinsam singen und rappen sie und revolutionieren nebenbei die sexistische rumänische Musikindustrie. Schläge in Patriarchatsgesichter teilen sie aus wie ihre geladenen Texte, nehmen ihren rechtmäßigen Platz ein und sprechen sich für Schwesternschaft und die Kraft von Frauen aus. Solidarität ist ihr Grundbeat, den sie mit ihren köstlichen Sound und rhythmischer Extravaganz garnieren. Die beiden Schauspielerinnen beschwören Geister, verzaubern mit Voodoo-Energie, heilen und verfluchen, sie verstreuen empowernde Botschaften wie silbernes Glitter und feiern das Talent und die Kreativität von Roma-Künstlerinnen in der lokalen und weltweiten Musikszene.

Their influences are multiple, creating a dancing environment where people from other parts of the globe would feel represented.

“Disruptors of a Regime” sheds light on the birth of the Roma movement in Hungary during the 1980s, when state control, censorship and secret agents shaped everyday lives and the struggle for dignity. Inspired by real stories and research, the play explores the struggles of Roma, LGBT people and artists who longed for freedom under dictatorship, while questioning how free we truly are in european countries, more than forty years later. Through the story of Sándor, a young filmmaker whose dreams collide with both socialist oppression and the illusions of the West, the performance dares to confront a shared past of silence, compromise and resilience. It asks us to face uncomfortable truths, value untold histories and rethink important questions like, how far can art go before authorities silence it?
„Disruptors of a Regime“ beleuchtet die Entstehung der Roma-Bewegung in Ungarn in den 1980er Jahren, in denen staatliche Kontrolle, Zensur und Geheimagenten das tägliche Leben prägten und den Kampf um Würde. Inspiriert von realen Geschichten und Recherchen, untersucht das Stück die Kämpfe von Roma, LGBT-Personen und Künstler*innen, die sich in der Diktatur nach Freiheit sehnen, und hinterfragt gleichzeitig, wie frei wir in europäischen Ländern mehr als vierzig Jahre später wirklich sind. Anhand der Geschichte von Sándor, einem jungen Filmemacher, dessen Träume sowohl mit der sozialistischen Unterdrückung als auch mit den Illusionen des Westens kollidieren, wagt die Performance ihr Publikum mit einer gemeinsamen Vergangenheit voller Schweigen, Kompromisse und Resilienz zu konfrontieren. Sie fordert auf, sich unangenehmen Wahrheiten zu stellen, unerzählte historische Ereignisse wertzuschätzen und wichtige Fragen zu überdenken: wie weit kann Kunst gehen, bis Machthaber sie zum Schweigen bringen?

Billie & Maria is a performance about survival through love and music. It tells the stories of Billie Holiday and Maria Tănase, two iconic singers of the 20th century whose paths never crossed, but whose experiences intertwine across time and space. The show follows real events documented from their lives along with imagined encounters between them, in a space created mostly by sound and light, where the fiber of reality dissolves and leaves room for imagination. Billie, the American jazz singer, was confronted with the harsh reality of racism, while Maria, the Romanian folklore legend, had to endure oppression by the fascists and then a communist dictatorial regime. These two lives happened at the same time in history in the 1900s, with only two years difference between them, but in completely different worlds. How can a Black woman from the Western world and a white woman from Eastern Europe share such similar destinies? None of them got to turn 50, both of them struggled with addictions, none of them had children, both of them sang to the wounded soldiers in the war. And, most importantly, both of them loved with passion and fought for their rights, in a period when women were so widely silenced. Billie & Maria is an exploration of how real talent can be so easily re-shaped or even crushed by political regimes or social circumstances. We bring in the same room the American black soul jazz and the spirit of Roma musicians, giving voice to hope.
Billie & Maria ist eine Performance über das Überleben durch Liebe und Musik. Sie erzählt die Geschichten von Billie Holiday und Maria Tănase, zwei ikonischen Sängerinnen des 20. Jahrhunderts, deren Wege sich nie kreuzten, deren Erlebnisse sich jedoch über Zeit und Raum hinweg miteinander verweben. Die Show folgt realen Ereignissen aus ihrem Leben, die dokumentiert sind, sowie erfundenen Begegnungen zwischen ihnen, in einem Raum, der hauptsächlich durch Klang und Licht erschaffen wird, in dem sich die Faser der Realität auflöst und Raum für Vorstellungskraft entsteht. Billie, die amerikanische Jazzsängerin, wurde mit der harten Realität des Rassismus konfrontiert, während Maria, die rumänische Folklorelegende, unter der Unterdrückung durch die Faschisten und später unter einem kommunistischen Diktaturregime leiden musste. Diese beiden Leben fanden zur selben Zeit in der Geschichte im 20. Jahrhundert statt, mit nur zwei Jahren Unterschied, aber in völlig unterschiedlichen Welten. Wie können eine schwarze Frau aus der westlichen Welt und eine weiße Frau aus Osteuropa so ähnliche Schicksale teilen? Keine von beiden erreichte das 50. Lebensjahr, beide kämpften mit Suchtproblemen, keine von ihnen hatte Kinder, beide sangen für die verwundeten Soldaten im Krieg. Und, was am wichtigsten ist, beide liebten leidenschaftlich und kämpften für ihre Rechte, in einer Zeit, in der Frauen weitgehend zum Schweigen gebracht wurden. „Billie & Maria“ ist eine Erkundung, wie wahres Talent so leicht von politischen Regimen oder sozialen Umständen umgeformt oder sogar zerstört werden kann. Wir bringen im gleichen Raum die amerikanische schwarze Soul-Jazz-Musik und den Geist der Roma-Musiker zusammen und verleihen der Hoffnung eine Stimme.

Get Up, Roma Stand-Up! is a bold shake-up of the stand-up comedy scene. A space too often ruled by racism, sexism, and homophobia. This show offers something radically different: humour that is deeply personal, politically charged, and unmistakably Roma. Each performer steps into the spotlight with their own story: raw, sharp, and laced with wit. These voices dismantle corny stereotypes and reclaim the stage with authenticity and power. Roma culture has always found strength in joy and storytelling. Here, comedy becomes a tool of resistance, a platform for self-expression, cultural pride, and political commentary. Giuvlipen celebrate their and our multiple identities, pull the rug out from under the Status quo and invite us to rethink who gets to tell the joke and who’s been the punchline for far too long. Get Up, Roma Stand-Up! invites us to laugh and to reimagine what comedy can be.
Get Up, Roma Stand-Up! rüttelt die Stand-Up-Comedy-Szene auf. Ein Bereich, der noch zu oft von Rassismus, Sexismus und Homophobie geprägt ist. Diese Show bietet etwas radikal Anderes: Humor, der zutiefst persönlich, politisch aufgeladen und unverkennbar Roma ist.
Jede darstellende Person tritt mit ihrer eigenen Geschichte ins Rampenlicht: roh, scharfsinnig, mehrschichtig witzig. Diese Stimmen brechen mit abgedroschenen Stereotypen und fordern die Bühne mit Authentizität und Kraft zurück. Roma-Kultur hat ihre Stärke schon immer in Freude und im Geschichtenerzählen gefunden. Hier wird Comedy zu einem Werkzeug des Widerstands, einer Plattform für Selbstentfaltung, Stolz auf die Kulturen und politischen Kommentar. Giuvlipen feiern ihre und unsere vielfältigen Identitäten, entziehen dem Status quo seinen Boden und laden ein, neu darüber nachzudenken, wer welche Witze erzählt und wer schon viel zu lange die Pointe ist. Get Up, Roma Stand-Up! lädt ein, zu lachen und neu zu denken, was Comedy sein kann.

Unfortunately, all the stories of women staged in the play are taken from real life! What is told in this performance is the heartbreaking story of women that we read in newspaper news, in the black chronicle, but never really think about – and unfortunately take for granted. A meeting like poetry… Half a dream, half a reality… Sometimes a tragic game, sometimes funny for women… Just like life! A little sadness, a little laughter… Women who did not speak while they were alive… What would they say if they could return again to this world?

Cristinel Manole, a musician born in Romania into a family of artists, discovered the stage at the age of six and carries with him nearly four decades of musical experience. After numerous collaborations in Romania, he settled in Germany in 2007, where, together with a Balkan music band, he has captivated audiences across Europe. A true master of the trumpet, he moves gracefully from traditional lăutărească music to jazz and beyond, exploring sounds that weave together tradition and modernity. He currently lives in Berlin, where he continues to bring his music to life through several projects — including a solo one.

Emerging from Berlin’s Roma arts scene, AVAZYA Network brings a new language of resistance to the stage. Founded as a collective of Roma and Sinti and allied artists from across Europe, AVAZYA transforms the body into a political instrument — a space of refusal, fragility, and empowerment. Their performance That’s not the Point questions the very idea of representation: Who asks us to be visible, and why? Instead of seeking recognition, they expose the structures that demand it. Fragmented gestures, broken rhythms, and silences collide — creating a theatre that resists translation.
